Feb. 25, 2020: The Kickoff Meeting for North Carolina Center of Excellence on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (NC-CAV) held at Raleigh, North Carolina

The North Carolina Center of Excellence on Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (NC-CAV) kick-off and the first technical advisory panel meeting was held on February 25th 2020 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Researchers and presenters from three NC-CAV thrusts along with the representatives and officials from NCDOT participated in this meeting.

Dr. Ali Karimoddini informed the participants about NC-CAV ‘s vision and goals, the ongoing research projects, the resources and relevant support departments available at North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to plan the conduct the research, and inform the researchers about the regular reporting of the research findings to North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Principal investigators presented their work on the sub-projects under research at each COE explaining their research goals, research methodology, research tasks, and final expected products. Dr. Wei Fan the thrust 1 lead briefed the participants about project 1 titled “CAV Impacts on Traffic Intersection Capacity and Transportation Revenue”, Dr. Thomas Chase presented the thrust 2 research project titled “Assessing North Carolina Readiness for CAVs in Traditional and Emerging Infrastructure Needs”, while Dr. Abdollah Homaifar presented the thrust 3 research project titled “Developing and Implementing CAV-UAV Collaboration for Advancing the Transportation Systems”.
